Ringing in the New Year

Ringing in the New Year

2016 is drawing to an end and 2017 is nearly upon us. Here at A Quarter to Tea, we're undergoing a small handful of changes for the new year, which will we hope will make 2017 better for everyone.

Seasonal Collections

Beginning March 1, 2017 we will begin offering teas in seasonal collections. There will be five (5) new or favorite teas that will stick around only for the season. I feel this allows us to continue offering more flavors throughout the year as well as maintaining a foundation of current favorites (Chocolate Cherry Latte, Eggnog Poundcake, Banana Nut Pancakes, Ice Brandy, etc).

The Spring Collection will be offered from March - June. At that time the following teas will become part of 2017's seasonal selections only, so please stock up before that date if desired.

Lemon Ginger Blueberry Sencha (Spring Collection)
Frosted Carrot Cake (Spring Collection)
Cranberry Calm Rooibos (Fall Collection)
Ginger Pear Spice Cake (Fall Collection)
Caramel Baked Apple Oolong (Fall Collection)
Honey Gingerbread Pancakes (Winter Collection)
Snowflake Rooibos (Winter Collection)

Limited Teas that will be reappearing for these collections are:

Maple Pecan Oolong (Fall Collection)
Cranberry Orange Spice (Winter Collection)

Seasonal Teas will be offered in the standard 1, 2, and 4oz quantities we have been offering.

New Subscription Box Options

To coincide with the release of seasonal collections, we will also be offering a seasonal subscription box. It will include 1oz each of the five seasonal teas, little extras, recipe cards, special discounts and more.

This box will ship the first week of March, June, September and December.

Pricing will be $27 (US) or $32.85 (Canada) for a recurring subscription.

Canadian Subscription Options

We now offer all subscription services to Canada. Please view the page for pricing.

Discontinued Teas

Due to either a lack of interest or supplier issues, the following teas will be phased out this year:

Chipotle Chocolate Pudding (Black Tea)
Summer Berry Sangria (White Tea)
Apricot Tart (Jade Oolong)
Cranberry Pistachio Biscotti (White Tea)
Red Velvet (Rooibos)
Peach Melba (White Tea)

Pricing Changes/Happy 2017

Pricing Changes/Happy 2017

At A Quarter to Tea, our goal has been and continues to be making uniquely flavored premium tea. Which is why in order to continue as a company, create new blends, and source high quality base teas, as well as maintain our current selections, our pricing needs to move with and better reflect the market, as well as resource and material costs.

What this means for you, is that our pricing with be restructured to be better distributed across our teas and more accurately reflect industry standards. While prices on some teas will experience an increase, you will also find reduced prices among others.

We are committed to providing value to our customers in meaningful ways, including high quality base teas, allergy friendly variations and ingredients, special promotions, new additional shipping options, and always competitive pricing. We believe that our approach to value properly balances the experience we provide customers with our need to effectively run our business.

The price changes became effective December 24, 2016 as we wanted everyone to have a consistent holiday purchasing experience. Limited tea prices and subscription services will remain the same.

We have amazing new things planned for 2017 and look forward to continuing to grow, learn, and experience some amazing tea with you all.

Please contact us with any concerns about these changes you might have and we will get back to you as soon as we can.

Thank you so much for your continued support,

Lauren & Kyle

Earl Grey Tea Cucumber Body Spray

Earl Grey Tea Cucumber Body Spray

Fall is here to stay, and with it comes cooler air and nipping breezes to chap and damage skin.

So today, I'm doing a different kind of recipe! Why not put the antioxidants in tea to work for you in a different way and wear it! This is a fresh calming body spray made with aloe, cucumbers, and tea that will help smooth and repair wind blown or sun damaged skin as the weather gets cooler.

This would be a fantastic gift idea this winter with a cute label and recipe card!

Any tea will work for this, but I chose to go with Star Crossed for a delicate earl grey scent with hints of mint and blueberry -- yum!

 Earl Grey Cucumber Body Spray

  • 1 tbsp of tea (I used Star Crossed)
  • Half of a cucumber
  • 1 tablespoon aloe vera gel
  • Small spray bottle

Brew 4 ounces of tea, using 1 tbsp of leaf (for an extra strong cup) to 4 oz water. Once steeped, pop that in the refrigerator to cool. Peel and puree half of a cucumber. Strain and discard solids.

Once the tea has cooled, add 2-4 ounces of tea to the cucumber juice. Add 1-2 tbsp aloe vera gel. Whisk or shake to combine. Store in the refrigerator.

Lasts about 10 days.

What are your favorite ways to use tea?

Maple Rum Raisin Rice Pudding

Maple Rum Raisin Rice Pudding

I don't make rice pudding as often as I'd like to. It's one of my favorite desserts -- sweet, creamy, and comforting. It's like a rainy-day antidote in a bowl.

So, with fall on us, the days shortening, and the weather getting chillier each day, what could possibly be better than a big bowl of comfort!

Okay, so tea infused rice pudding is better. You got me there.

And we went full on with all the stops for this one. Including rum-soaked raisins!

 Rum Raisin Rice Pudding

1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup rum

1 cup medium grain rice
3 cups almond milk (or other milk)
1 tbsp salted butter
pinch of salt
2 tbsp Spiced Rum Raisin and Maple Cream Tea

6 ounced, fluid sweetened condensed milk
2 tbsp maple syrup
1 whole large egg, beaten
1-1/2 tsp allspice

In a small bowl, add raisins and rum. Set aside. The longer, the better.

In a medium saucepan, combine the rice, milk, butter and salt. Add tea in a filter bag, or other removeable method. Bring to a boil, then cover and reduce heat and simmer for 18-20 minutes.

Remove pot from the stove and take out the tea bag. Add the sweetened condensed milk, maple syrup, and allspice. Return to head for 4-5 minutes to continue cooking.

Remove pot from the stove and temper in the beaten egg. Drain the raisins and fold them in.

Serve immediately in a small bowl.

Pumpkin Tea Bread

Pumpkin Tea Bread

In our house, September starts three months of all things pumpkin and pumpkin spice, and a hot tea habit that might rival China.

This recipe brings together both things. It's my favorite no frills pumpkin bread recipe, elevated to a new level with a layer of spicy, gingery happiness with the addition of Roasted Pumpkin Carrot Cake tea. You won't need anything for this one other than a spoon, loaf pan and a few bowls!

Make it for yourself, friends, neighbors, coworkers -- whomever! It's so easy it's sure to be a staple for you all fall, too!

 Pumpkin Tea Bread

1-2/3 cups whole wheat flour
1-1/2 cups sugar
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1-1/2 tbsp pumpkin pie spice
1/2 tsp salt

2 large eggs
1 cup canned pumpkin (not pumpkin pie filling)
1/2 cup grapeseed (or other neutral) oil
1/2 cup Roasted Pumpkin Carrot Cake tea (brewed double strength)

Toppings or Mix-ins (cranberries, almonds, walnuts, etc)

Preheat oven to 350° F. Combine first six ingredients. Whisk together eggs, pumpkin, oil and tea. Add wet ingredients into dry ingredients and mix just until combined. Fold in any mix ins desired.

Pour into a greased 9x5-in. loaf pan, top with any toppings you choose. Bake until a skewer inserted in center comes out clean, approximately 70 minutes. Cool in pan 10 minutes before removing to a wire rack. Yield: 1 loaf.
